MySQL AB today announced that Veckans Affärer, Sweden's leading business magazine, has chosen MySQL AB as the "IT Company of the Year 2004." This award was presented to representatives of MySQL AB at a ceremony in the The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in Stockholm today.
Veckans Affärer reaches 136,000 Swedish business and finance professionals weekly. For 13 years, Veckans Affärer has listed Sweden's 500 largest IT companies in a yearly special, and in connection with this event, the magazine's jury selects the "IT Company of the Year." An article in the publication describes the rationale for choosing MySQL AB as IT Company of the Year (translated from Swedish):
"MySQL is part of a technology revolution that is likely to restructure the software industry and strengthen the trend toward increased openness within the IT industry. MySQL AB is a rare example of a Swedish software company that has managed to reach the global market with its products and has the potential to become a new Swedish billion-SEK company. Because of this, MySQL AB can serve as a model to other young Swedish IT companies."
