STOCKHOLM -- October 23, 2009 -- E.ON ES, a subsidiary within E.ON Group, today announced that it has purchased a multi-year MySQL Enterprise™ database subscription from Sun Microsystems to help power its advanced work order management system, used for the service and maintenance of Sweden's electricity distribution grid.
Every year, approximately 900 E.ON ES installers manage up to 100,000 tasks through the mobile work order system, which is powered by Sun's MySQL™ database. Every service notice is distributed through the system, and picked up by remote service staff located across Sweden. As soon as the installer has completed the task, the report is transferred back through the Java J2EE-based system, and the ticket is registered as closed.
"High application availability and fast performance are essential for our work order management system," said Ola Bernersson, IT Project Manager at E.ON ES. "It is at the very core of our operations, and any disruption or downtime has a considerable impact on our quality of service. We chose MySQL for both economic and quality reasons, and I am now looking forward to streamlining the system by further leveraging our MySQL Enterprise subscription."
Due to recent statutory regulation, E.ON ES had to install 400,000 new electricity meters across the country in a short amount of time. Despite the heavy traffic load, all system processes were managed without any interruptions or application slow down.
By subscribing to MySQL Enterprise, E.ON ES will gain access to around-the-clock technical support delivered by Sun Microsystem's MySQL experts. E.ON ES will also be able to better track and optimize application performance, security and memory usage through the MySQL Enterprise Monitor and Sun's newly released and enhanced MySQL Query Analyzer tools included in the subscription.
"We're extremely pleased that E.ON ES sees how MySQL Enterprise can protect its IT investment in its mission-critical system," said Magnus Stenberg, MySQL Sales Manager for the Nordic & Benelux region at Sun Microsystems."
E.ON ES is a wholly-owned subsidiary of E.ON Sweden, and was until 2008 named ES ElektroSandberg AB. E.ON ES is a leading technical and contracting company that creates customized turnkey solutions in close partnership with the customers. E.ON ES runs contract, service and consultancy activities in the Nordic region with specialist expertise in electricity, automation, engineering and telecommunications. E.ON ES has a nationwide organization with around 1,800 employees in some 80 regions in Sweden. www.eon-es.se
