AlwaysOn Names Open Source Database Vendor Among Industry's Top 100 Private Companies at this Week's AO2005 Innovation Summit
PALO ALTO, Calif. - MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced that it has just completed the best quarter (April-June) in the company's ten-year history. Due in large part to the success of its new "MySQL Network" commercial subscription offering, the privately-held company generated more than twice the revenue than the same period last year.
Many leading corporations and technology vendors are realizing significant cost savings by using the MySQL database to power high-volume Web sites, business-critical enterprise applications and packaged software. MySQL AB's strong second-quarter growth was driven by key deals from customers such as Alcatel, Bloomberg, BusinessObjects, Cendant, Cisco, Fujitsu, McClatchy, Micromuse, Scholastic, Sourcefire, Vonage, Wachovia and WebTrends.
Launched in February, MySQL Network is a comprehensive set of certified software, production support and premium services that help corporate enterprises ensure the highest levels of reliability, security and uptime for their business critical database applications. As a proactive service that helps eliminate problems before they occur, MySQL Network is a single, easy-to-buy offering that provides developers and DBAs with everything they need to successfully develop and deploy solutions with MySQL.
"As more mainstream IT users become familiar with the benefits of open source software, we continue to see strong, growing adoption of MySQL," said Marten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB. "Our success in the past quarter demonstrates the overall interest in affordable, scalable and easy-to-deploy database solutions among corporate enterprises and ISVs."
Today's announcement was made at the AO2005 Innovation Summit conference, being held here this week on the Stanford University campus. Participating in the prestigious industry event for the third straight year, Mr. Mickos will be featured on the panel, "Is the Whole World Going Open Source?" on Thursday morning at 9:30 am (Pacific). Joining him will be moderator Ray Lane of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers; Jonathan Schwartz of Sun Microsystems; Kim Polese of SpikeSource; Rahul Kapoor of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP; and Rod Smith of IBM.
MySQL is also being highlighted at the conference as one of the industry's "Top 100 Private Companies". Selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team, these award winners are based on demonstrated leadership and innovation. This is the second year MySQL AB has been named to the AO Top 100 Private Companies list.
