Enterprise Software Veteran to Grow Open Source Database's Presence in Corporate IT
CUPERTINO, Calif. - MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced that Mark Burton has joined the company's management team as executive vice president of worldwide sales. Responsible for growing and managing MySQL AB's entire international corporate sales force, he reports directly to CEO Marten Mickos and will be based in the company's North American headquarters in Silicon Valley.
Burton, 47, brings 25 years of enterprise sales experience to MySQL AB, as well as a strong track record of developing international sales teams and achieving record results. While serving as Informatica Corporation's senior vice president of Americas sales, and eventually group vice president of worldwide sales and alliances, he grew the company's annual revenues from $8 million to $154 million - a significant contribution to Informatic's successful IPO and secondary offering. Burton also held senior executive and field sales management positions at OuterBay Technologies, Oracle Corporation, DEC and Unisys. Burton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from San Jose State University.
"Mark's enterprise and data management background make him an excellent addition to our management team as we continue to build our business," said Marten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB. "His previous experience will be invaluable in leveraging corporate IT's growing interest in open source software and services."
"It's an amazing opportunity to work with a company like MySQL that has already achieved such strong brand awareness," said Burton. "I look forward to helping extend this reputation even further by communicating and delivering our well-known benefits to a larger enterprise audience."
